Meet Our Senior Pastor

Rev. Dr. Major A. Stewart, MBA, DMin, BCC

Biography

For ten years, Dr. Major A. Stewart has shepherded the Greater Mount Sinai Baptist Church family as its Senior Pastor. A seasoned pastor, board-certified chaplain, author, and church leadership consultant, he brings more than two decades of experience equipping pastors, churches, and communities for ministry that is spiritually grounded and emotionally resilient.

Beyond our congregation, Dr. Stewart serves as Vice Moderator of the United Missionary Baptist Association, where he helps train, license, and ordain ministers across more than 50 congregations. Carrying a deep heart for mentoring men and developing the next generation of faith leaders, he is widely recognized for his work in African American male ministry, youth discipleship, and culturally informed spiritual formation. As a certified church consultant and instructor with the National Baptist Congress of Christian Education, he teaches nationally on discipleship, leadership development, and ministering to African American men and boys in today’s cultural climate.

A MINISTRY OF PRESENCE

Dr. Stewart is a Board-Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains, with clinical experience in hospice, trauma, palliative care, and mental health chaplaincy. Serving in both hospital and hospice settings, he has offered compassionate presence and spiritual support to individuals and families during life’s most vulnerable moments.

EDUCATION

Dr. Stewart earned his Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary, where his dissertation focused on developing sustainable policies and procedures for 21st-century Black churches. He also holds an MBA in Business Administration, a Master of Administration and Christian Education, and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting.

FAMILY

Dr. Stewart recently celebrated his marriage to his beloved wife, Alisa Stewart. Together, they are the proud parents of four daughters and two sons, and they count their family among God’s greatest blessings.
