“The Spirit of the Lord…..he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor;….to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” Luke 4:18

Jesus said that He came to bring freedom to those held captive by destructive habits, to give sight to those who are spiritually blind, to lift up those who've been put down, and to announce that the time of God's favor toward us has arrived.

The story is told of a man passing by elephants, he suddenly stopped, confused by the fact that these huge creatures were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains, no cages. It was obvious that the elephants could, break away from the ropes they were tied to but for some reason, they did not. The man asked the trainer why they just stood there and made no attempt to get away. “Well,” he said, “when they are very young and much smaller we use the same size of rope to tie them and, at that age, it’s enough to hold them. As they grow up, they are conditioned to believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can still hold them, so they never try to break free.” The man was amazed. These animals could at any time break free from their bonds but because they believed they couldn’t, they were stuck right where they were.

Like the elephants, how many of us go through life being stuck on believing we cannot do something simply because someone in the past told us we couldn’t?  How many of us are being held back by old, outdated beliefs that no longer serve us? How many of us have avoided trying something new because of a limiting belief? Even worse, how many of us are being held back by someone else’s limiting beliefs?

I stopped by to tell you that Satan will place barriers in your mind and say you can't go beyond a certain point in life. He will tie strings to your mind and tell you that you can't dream beyond your present circumstances. Don't believe him because the devil is a liar and the father of lies. A friend once told me that a “A lie is as effective as the truth if you believe it and act on it”. Understand that with God all things are possible, and His power is unlimited. The Bible is filled with stories of limited people, and, in some cases, low-life people who overcame the barriers beyond which they thought they couldn't go, and God used them to do amazing things. God used a tongue-stuttering Moses to lead the children of Israel across the Red Sea on dry ground. God used the inadequate lunch of a little boy to feed 5000 men and their families. God used a man who once persecuted Christians but after meeting Jesus he wrote more than half of the New Testament. If God can use them, certainly He can use you. Do you believe that?
